Steps to Take to Establish Residency in Florida:

Declaration of Domicile: After physically moving to Florida, file a statutory declaration of domicile in the state.
Homestead Exemption: If you own a residence in the state, apply for Florida homestead exemption in the county in which you reside. Selling current home ownership in other states often defines intent to move out of the prior state.
Business interests: Center the administration and financial aspects of any business in which you are actively engaged into Florida.
Clubs: Join Florida-based organizations and transfer current membership to Florida branches.
Charitable Contributions: Use Florida branches of nationwide organizations and donate locally.
Voting: Register to vote in Florida.
Driver’s License: Secure a Florida driver’s license.
Vehicle registration: Obtain Florida license plates and car registration for your vehicles.
Tax Returns: File individual tax returns with the Florida address and pay all state and local Florida taxes. You may be able to file a “final” state income tax return in your old state of residence if you have no source income reportable to that state.
Records: Use a Florida address for your banking, brokerage, life insurance and credit cards; change it with Social Security and employers; update any legal documents with the Florida address.
Passport: Change it to your Florida address.
Property owned in other states: You may need to re-draft ownership of other state property into non-taxable state formats.
